Labor Day Plans!

Posted on September 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

This weekend we are closing in on Labor Day and I can hear the excitement everywhere! What are you planning to do for Labor Day. If you don’t have plans just yet don’t worry, here at The Bennington we’ve got you covered.

In and all around Washington D.C. there are events happening in honor of Labor Day. My personal favorites are the events that include food. Food on a holiday is always better. This year a couple of neighbors and I will be attending the Labor Day Burger Eating Contest.

While I definitely won’t be participating I’ll be there to watch! You can watch the contest this Monday (9-6) at 5:00 p.m. at Whitlow’s on Wilson!

How many can you eat?

Eating at McGinty’s!

Irish Food

After a hard week I enjoy hanging out with a couple of my friends at McGinty’s! This traditional Irish pub and restaurant is a great hang out for everyone! They enjoy calling themselves a “public house.”

“A Public House is a gathering location for the whole community”

McGinty’s is a pub and restaurant that wants to be a “Jack of All Trades.” They provide outdoor seating with a large patio, a secluded area for a quiet dinner and a large bar for those ready to relax!

This unique venture is Irish owned and managed and aims to bring a little Irish hospitality and friendliness to its surrounding communities.

Where do you enjoy having a good time on a Friday?

Cheers for Beers!

This may be the only week that some people can say this without reprimand. This week is DC Beer Week! You can celebrate it or you can learn about beer culture. Yes, there is beer culture.

Still not convinced? Well I like to explain beer culture like wine culture. Beer can have many different colors (all a tint of brown) and tastes. You could have a wheat beer or a regular one. There are certain ways to have a beer, depending on the country you could either have it ice cold (my personal favorite) or served at room temperature.

Does it sound familiar? The same characteristics of a wine go into a beer as well. So if you’re not a beer connoisseur just yet this is the week to do it! Check out the list of events here!

Please drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive. Simply use the Commuter Rail!

When it comes to Tex Mex restaurants I’ve never really enjoyed them. I’m not sure what it is but I’m sure it’s the food. The thing of it is…I only enjoy Chevy’s Fresh Mex! Tex mex to the better level!

“Fresh Mex®,” they take one taste and they just get it: Mexican food, carefully made from scratch by real people from really fresh ingredients is unbelievably good.

At Chevy’s I’ve have salsa made from fire-roasted tomatoes, and tamales made from real masa! It’s greatly made food and the only “fresh mex” restaurant I’ll go to.
